But no matter the size or ultimate release date of the films themselves, the little pressurized marketing montages designed to get us excited about them felt, for once, like more than just sales pitches. They were like glimmers of a brighter future. And the 10 that follow shined brightly indeed.

In 2020, movie streamers went to Bangladesh with Chris Hemsworth for Extraction, a drug war/escort mission filled with insane fight choreography, and morally dubious bodycounts. The year brought us back to Vietnam with a group of Black veterans in Da 5 Bloods. And it kind of did something in Mulan; we’re not sure about that one. Thankfully, 2021 will see even more battle-tested heroes and enough pyrotechnics to keep Tom Cruise sprinting.
